Strictly Social Tango
Tango salon is defined as Argentine tango danced in a social context. There are two main styles with the vocabulary and technique for proper execution on the social dance floor; by proper I mean easy to keep along line of dance and save to execute on a crowded dance floor.
I choose to teach strictly social tango with a close embrace, with emphasis on connection and musicality. I was personally drawn to tango by the music and the beauty of two bodies moving in harmony. The freedom to surrender in somebody else's arms and yet feel this immense power of self expression is to me what makes Tango so special for both partners. I think I can speak for the leaders because I lead also.
I teach both the Milonguero and Salon Tango(Villa Urquiza) and encourage my students, specially the ladies to learn both. As followers we must be prepared to dance with any type of dancer and dance well in order to have more dances at local milongas or anywhere we might travel to. A man can choose one style since he is the leader and choreographer of his own dance. Regardless of style what is universal in tango is the music and the expectation of connection. Social tango gives us the opportunity to experience this state of bliss, it does not happen with every tango but when it does, that's when you say "this is why I dance Tango". by Linda Garwood
Milonguero Style Tango
This style is danced chest to chest with an embrace that never opens. The style of choice in the crowded dance floors of Buenos Aires.

Traditional Salon Villa Urquiza Style
This style is danced open on the left side and dancers may open and close embrace as they execute some of the figures or elements
